The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has announced an updated timetable for the 2026 local government elections in the state. The commission said the new schedule is meant to give political parties, candidates and voters enough time to prepare properly for the polls.
According to PLASIEC, the revised calendar covers key activities such as party primaries, submission of candidates’ names, campaign periods and the election day itself. The commission explained that the changes were necessary to ensure transparency, improve logistics and avoid clashes with other national events.
PLASIEC also urged political parties and aspirants to strictly follow the new guidelines, warning that failure to comply with deadlines could lead to disqualification. It encouraged all stakeholders to cooperate so that the election process will be peaceful, credible and accepted by the people of Plateau State.
The commission further appealed to voters to take part actively in the polls, saying that local government elections are important for grassroots development. It assured residents that adequate arrangements would be made to ensure security, fairness and smooth conduct of the exercise.
