A tragic road accident on the Kano–Maiduguri Expressway has claimed the lives of nine people and left at least ten others injured. The crash involved a commercial bus that reportedly lost control while travelling along the busy highway. The incident happened in the early hours of the day and caused panic among motorists and nearby residents.
Emergency responders and road safety officials quickly arrived at the scene to rescue survivors and remove the victims. The injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of those who died were taken to the morgue. Traffic was temporarily disrupted as officials worked to clear the road and restore normal movement.
Authorities say preliminary findings suggest that speeding and poor road conditions may have contributed to the accident, though investigations are still ongoing. Officials have warned drivers to avoid reckless driving, especially on long-distance routes that often experience fatigue and poor visibility.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called on motorists to strictly obey traffic rules. Road users were reminded that safety measures such as regular vehicle checks, responsible driving, and rest during long journeys can help reduce the number of accidents on Nigerian highways.
