The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has reported a series of attacks targeting herders in Plateau State. The group claimed that herdsmen have been attacked in several communities, leading to loss of lives and property. MACBAN called on authorities to take urgent steps to protect the safety of herders in the state.
According to MACBAN, the incidents have created fear among pastoralists, disrupting grazing and farm activities. The group alleged that the attacks are becoming frequent, making it difficult for herders to operate safely. They urged security agencies to investigate the attacks and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
MACBAN also highlighted the need for community dialogue to prevent further escalation of violence. The association said that without proper protection and intervention, tensions between herders and local communities may worsen, affecting both livelihoods and local economies.
Observers note that Plateau has a history of herder-farmer conflicts, with both groups calling for stronger security measures. MACBAN’s report adds pressure on the government to address the violence and protect herders while promoting peaceful coexistence in affected areas.
