A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, of plotting to become governor through what he described as a “backdoor” process. The party leader claimed that the current impeachment moves in the state are not about good governance but about personal political ambition.
According to the PDP chieftain, Amaewhule and his supporters are trying to use the impeachment process as a shortcut to power instead of waiting for elections. He warned that such actions could damage democracy and worsen the political tension already affecting the state.
The party leader called on political actors in Rivers State to respect the constitution and the will of the people. He said leaders should focus on solving real problems like insecurity, unemployment and poor infrastructure rather than fighting over political positions.
He also urged the federal government and relevant institutions to closely monitor the situation to prevent a breakdown of law and order. The PDP chieftain stressed that power must only come through the ballot and not through manipulation or political games.
