A Kano State High Court has sentenced a man to death after finding him guilty of killing his own son. The judgment followed a full trial in which the prosecution presented evidence linking the man to the crime, while the defence failed to convince the court otherwise.

The court held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and that the accused was responsible for the unlawful act that led to the child’s death. The judge described the offence as grave and unacceptable, stressing that the law must protect the lives of children and vulnerable persons.

The court also noted that domestic violence and child abuse remain serious problems in society and warned that offenders would face the full weight of the law. It urged families and communities to speak up early when they notice abuse in order to prevent tragedies.

Human rights groups and child-protection advocates have renewed calls for stronger awareness, counselling, and support systems for families under stress, saying prevention is better than punishment and that early intervention could save lives.
