Robinson Ewor, former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Rivers State PDP, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misusing public funds. He claimed that the state government is currently operating without an approved budget for the 2026 fiscal year, raising concerns about the legality of current expenditures. Ewor made the remarks during the “thank you” visit of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to Ahoada East Local Government Area on Wednesday.
According to Ewor, the Rivers State government is facing challenges due to poor collaboration between the executive and legislative branches. He warned that without a formally passed budget law, all state spending could be considered illegal. “The three arms of government—the executive, legislature, and judiciary—must work together to deliver the dividends of democracy for the state,” he said.
The former PDP caretaker chair said that as of January 1, 2026, any expenditure by the state is technically unlawful. He stressed that governance requires transparency and cooperation to ensure public funds are used correctly. Ewor’s statement reflects growing concern among opposition members over the management of state resources under Fubara’s administration.
Ewor also urged the government to be open with citizens. “I will advise them to communicate with the people, to be honest and transparent. Leaders should tell their followers the truth about governance and finances,” he added. His comments come amid rising scrutiny over fiscal management in Rivers State.
