Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has firmly rejected fresh calls by former U.S. President Donald Trump for Greenland to become part of the United States. In a post on his official Facebook page, Nielsen said “that’s enough,” making it clear that Greenland is not interested in being annexed by any foreign country.
His reaction followed Trump’s recent comments about Greenland’s importance to U.S. national security. Trump repeated his long-standing interest in Greenland while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, claiming that the U.S. needs Greenland because of its strategic location in the Arctic and suggesting Denmark cannot properly secure it.
Trump’s remarks have raised concern in Greenland and Europe, especially after recent U.S. military actions in Venezuela increased global tension. Many Greenlanders fear that renewed American interest could threaten the island’s political autonomy and relationship with Denmark.
Greenland’s government has now restated its position clearly — the island is not for sale and will continue to make its own decisions about its future. Nielsen’s short but strong message reflects growing frustration over repeated foreign claims on Greenland’s sovereignty.
