NNPCL reduces fuel price again

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has once again reduced the pump price of petrol at its retail outlets. The new price now stands at ₦815 per litre, down from the previous ₦835, representing a reduction of ₦20. The change was observed at several NNPCL filling stations across Abuja on Monday morning.

The price adjustment has already taken effect at outlets in Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along the Keffi–Abuja Road, and on the Kubwa Expressway. A station attendant confirmed that the new rate was implemented on Sunday evening, although the company is yet to issue an official public statement on the adjustment.

Despite the reduction, NNPCL’s price remains higher than that of some private marketers. For instance, petrol is reportedly selling for about ₦739 per litre at MRS stations backed by the Dangote Refinery, making NNPCL’s current price roughly ₦79 higher. This shows that competition in the downstream oil sector is still influencing pricing across the market.

Industry observers link the latest cut to the ongoing price adjustments triggered by the Dangote Refinery’s entry into fuel supply. Since December, marketers have been revising prices to stay competitive, a trend that many hope will continue and eventually lead to more affordable fuel for Nigerian consumers.
