Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has shared his thoughts on Victor Osimhen’s goal drought at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the situation as “interesting” rather than worrying. Speaking during a TV analysis, Oliseh said Osimhen’s impact goes beyond goals and should not be judged only by how many times he finds the net.
Oliseh noted that Osimhen has been drawing defenders, creating space for teammates, and forcing mistakes from opponents, which has helped Nigeria in other ways. He explained that strikers sometimes go through tournaments where their overall contribution matters more than scoring, especially when the team is winning and progressing.
According to Oliseh, Osimhen’s movement, pressing, and ability to unsettle defenders have been key to Nigeria’s attacking shape. He added that this often allows players like Lookman and Chukwueze to get more freedom in front of goal, even if Osimhen himself is not scoring regularly.
He concluded by saying that Osimhen’s goals will eventually come, and fans should remain patient and supportive. Oliseh believes that the Napoli forward is still one of Africa’s most dangerous attackers and will play a decisive role for Nigeria as the tournament moves into the knockout stages.
