Sanwo-Olu confirms eight dead in Lagos GNI fire

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has confirmed that eight people lost their lives in the recent fire outbreak at the GNI facility in Lagos. The fire, which broke out suddenly, spread quickly through the building, trapping some occupants before emergency teams could reach them.

According to the governor, firefighters and rescue officials were deployed immediately after the alarm was raised. Despite their efforts, the intensity of the fire made rescue difficult, and several victims could not be saved. Sanwo-Olu expressed deep sympathy to the families affected by the tragedy.

The state government said investigations have begun to determine the cause of the fire and to ensure that safety regulations are being followed at similar facilities across Lagos. Authorities stressed that any negligence found will be addressed in line with the law.

Residents and business owners have been advised to take fire safety seriously, including installing basic safety equipment and observing safety guidelines. The government also pledged to strengthen fire response systems to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
