Rivers: Wike, Allies Rule Out Support For Fubara’s Second-term Bid

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political allies in Rivers State have said they will not support Governor Siminalayi Fubara if he decides to run for a second term in office. Wike made this known during meetings with his supporters in Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas, where he said his political structure remains strong and capable of delivering electoral victories.

Wike reminded his supporters that it was his political base that helped secure President Bola Tinubu’s victory in Rivers State during the 2023 elections. He said his group also played a key role in ensuring that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won major seats at both the state and national levels, including the governorship seat.

Speaking at the gathering, the lawmaker representing Etche/Omuma, Kelechi Nwogu, said the people of Omuma would not support Fubara for a second term. He accused the governor of showing ingratitude and warned against leaders who turn against those who helped them rise to power.

The comments highlight the growing political tension in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections. While defections and realignments continue, Wike and his allies say their focus remains on loyalty, structure, and preparation for future political contests.
