Peter Obi Set To Join ADC As Party Plans Convention. Oseloka Obaze Also Joins

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is reportedly preparing to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sources within the party revealed that Obi plans to hold a declaration rally in Enugu, the political capital of the South-East, on December 31, 2025. His supporters have begun mobilizing for the move, following consultations with ADC leaders, including National Chairman David Mark.

While Obi’s formal defection has not yet been announced, the ADC has been preparing for a busy 2026, aiming to strengthen its structure and expand membership nationwide. The party plans to hold two conventions next year: one to ratify previous NEC decisions and another mid-year to select a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections. ADC officials believe the upcoming conventions and presidential declaration will energize the party across the country.

The Labour Party, meanwhile, has downplayed Obi’s potential departure. Its spokesperson, Obiora Ifoh, stated that any decision by Obi would likely be driven by personal ambition and emphasized that the party would continue to thrive regardless. LP expressed that it would have been preferable for Obi to address internal disagreements within the party but wished him well should he choose to move to ADC.

ADC’s preparations highlight the party’s intent to build a solid organisational framework for the future. Officials stress that the party’s focus on nationwide mobilization, membership expansion, and internal consolidation is critical as it positions itself for both the 2026 convention and the 2027 general elections.
