Tragedy struck Yobe State on December 26, 2025, as a 25-year-old man, Maina Jano, was beaten to death during a turbaning ceremony. The incident occurred at Barwa Fulani settlement in Kafetuwa, Karasuwa Local Government Area, during the late-night festivities.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Jano was attacked by an unidentified individual while youths participated in a Shadi competition held as part of the turbaning ceremony for Lamido Alhaji Kunjo. The assault caused severe internal injuries, leaving the victim critically wounded.
Jano, a resident of Nassara Fulani settlement in Kumaganam, Yusufari Local Government Area, was rushed to the General Hospital in Kumaganam for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries, sending shockwaves through the community.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack to identify the perpetrator and bring them to justice. The incident has raised concerns about security measures during traditional ceremonies in the state.
