A Nigerian lawyer has publicly praised the United States Army for carrying out airstrikes against suspected terrorist groups in the North-West region of the country. He described the action as timely and necessary, saying it would help reduce the threat posed by armed groups that have been terrorising local communities for years.
According to him, the airstrikes show strong international support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and insecurity. He noted that many rural communities in the North-West have suffered attacks, kidnappings and displacement, and any effort that helps restore peace should be welcomed.
The lawyer also urged Nigerian security agencies to build on the development by strengthening intelligence gathering and cooperation with international partners. He said defeating terrorism requires not just military action, but also better coordination, justice for victims and development in affected areas.
He added that while security operations are important, the government must also focus on addressing the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment and weak local governance, to ensure lasting peace in the region.
