Terror attacks on worshippers: Foreign involvement can’t be ruled out – Sheikh Gumi

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has said that foreign involvement cannot be completely ruled out in the recent terror attacks on worshippers in parts of Nigeria. He explained that the pattern and coordination of some of the attacks suggest that external actors or influences may be supporting local extremist groups.

Gumi said while Nigeria has its internal security challenges, the country must also pay attention to cross-border movements and international networks that could be aiding violent groups. He stressed that modern terrorism is rarely isolated and often involves funding, training, or ideology coming from outside national borders.

He called on Nigerian security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, border surveillance, and cooperation with neighboring countries and international partners. According to him, such collaboration is important to detect threats early and prevent attacks on innocent civilians, especially in sensitive locations like places of worship.

Gumi also urged religious leaders and communities to continue promoting peace, tolerance, and dialogue. He warned that extremists often try to use religion to divide people, and only unity, understanding, and cooperation can stop violence from spreading further.
