Suspended Zamfara lawmakers accuse govt of withholding salaries

Suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have accused the state government of deliberately withholding their monthly salaries and allowances following their suspension from the legislature. The lawmakers said the action is unfair and meant to punish them without due process.

In a joint statement, the affected lawmakers claimed that they have not been paid for several months despite remaining elected representatives of their constituencies. They argued that suspension does not remove their legal right to earn their salaries as public office holders.

The lawmakers also accused the state government of using financial pressure to silence them and weaken opposition voices within the assembly. They called on relevant authorities and the public to intervene and ensure that their rights are respected.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Government has not officially responded to the accusation. Political observers say the issue could further deepen tensions between the executive arm and the state legislature if not properly addressed.
