Super Eagle’s big names not happy to sit on bench’ – Chelle

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has revealed that some of the team’s biggest stars are not pleased when they are left out of the starting lineup. He said it is natural for top players to want to play every game, especially when they are used to being key figures at their clubs and in previous national team matches.

Chelle explained that managing big names comes with challenges, as players expect to be on the pitch rather than on the bench. However, he stressed that every selection is based on form, fitness, tactics and what the team needs in each match, not on reputation or past achievements.

The coach added that competition for places is healthy for the team and helps push everyone to perform better. He said no player has a guaranteed spot and that all squad members must be ready to contribute whenever they are called upon, whether from the start or as a substitute.

Chelle assured fans that despite the internal frustrations, the team remains united and focused on achieving its goals. He said the players understand that success at international level requires sacrifice, discipline and putting the team ahead of personal ambitions.
