The Jigawa State Police Command has announced a complete ban on the sale, possession, and use of fireworks, knockouts, and pili cards during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The directive, issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Shi’isu Adam in Dutse, aims to protect lives and property during the festive season.
SP Adam explained that loud explosions from fireworks and knockouts can cause panic, injuries, and property damage, especially in crowded areas. Vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and people with health challenges are particularly at risk from these activities.
The police spokesperson urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and ensure compliance with the ban. Violators will face arrest and prosecution, as officers have been deployed across markets, churches, and other public spaces to enforce the directive.
SP Adam encouraged residents to report suspicious activities related to fireworks and stressed that public cooperation is essential for a safe and peaceful festive season. Checkpoints and patrols have been established throughout Jigawa State, with collaboration from other security agencies to maintain order.
