The Court of Appeal has ordered a retrial in the long-running dispute over the Salu of Edunabon stool. The ruling sets aside the earlier judgment and directs that the case be heard again, giving all parties another chance to present their arguments properly.
In its decision, the appellate court held that issues raised in the appeal were strong enough to warrant a fresh hearing. The judges ruled that justice would be better served if the matter is retried, rather than allowing the previous judgment to stand.
The Salu of Edunabon stool has been the subject of legal battles for years, with different families laying claim to the traditional title. The latest ruling is expected to revive legal and traditional processes surrounding the kingship, while also drawing renewed attention from the community.
Stakeholders in Edunabon have reacted with mixed feelings, as some welcomed the decision while others expressed concern over further delays. Many residents, however, hope the retrial will finally bring clarity and lasting peace to the chieftaincy dispute.
