Suspected kidnappers holding 28 travellers from Plateau State have reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦1.5 million for each victim. The passengers were abducted while travelling along a major highway, an incident that has once again raised fears over road safety in the region.
Sources close to the families said the kidnappers made contact and clearly stated their financial demand. With the total ransom running into millions of naira, relatives of the victims are said to be distressed and unsure how to raise such a huge amount within a short time.
Community leaders and concerned residents have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted travellers. They also urged the government to strengthen security on highways, which have increasingly become targets for criminal gangs.
Meanwhile, authorities are yet to release full details of ongoing operations but have assured the public that efforts are being made to secure the victims’ safe return. The incident adds to growing concerns about kidnapping and insecurity affecting travellers across parts of the country.
