Nigeria has moved from padded budgets to forged laws’ — Peter Obi

Former Vice President Peter Obi has criticized the current state of governance in Nigeria, saying the country has shifted from the practice of inflating budgets to creating “forged laws.” He expressed concern that such actions undermine democracy and weaken public trust in government institutions.

Obi stated that when budgets are padded and laws are manipulated, citizens are denied the benefits of accountability and transparency. He emphasized that this trend harms economic growth and diminishes the effectiveness of governance across the nation.

The former presidential candidate urged lawmakers and government officials to prioritize integrity and honesty in budget preparation and lawmaking. According to him, sustainable development is only possible when policies reflect the true needs of Nigerians rather than political expediency.

Obi also called on civil society groups, the media, and ordinary citizens to hold leaders accountable, warning that silence and complacency would allow poor governance to persist. He stressed that active participation in democracy is essential for national progress.
