Boko Haram, bandits: Negotiations work, war doesn’t – Sheikh Gumi

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has stated that negotiations, rather than military action, are the most effective way to address the challenges posed by Boko Haram and bandits in Nigeria. He stressed that a purely war-driven approach often leads to more violence and suffering for innocent communities.

Gumi explained that dialogue with insurgents and armed groups can yield sustainable solutions and reduce bloodshed. According to him, a combination of security measures and negotiation creates a balanced strategy that addresses the root causes of conflicts.

The scholar highlighted the need for government officials and security agencies to engage with local leaders, traditional rulers, and community members in affected regions. He believes that involving communities in peace efforts fosters trust and enhances intelligence gathering.

Sheikh Gumi urged policymakers to focus on long-term solutions, including education, poverty reduction, and social inclusion, alongside security interventions. He warned that relying solely on military operations will not end the cycle of violence and may exacerbate instability.
