Reps mandate real-time electronic transmission of election results to IReV portal

The Nigerian House of Representatives has approved a new directive mandating the real-time electronic transmission of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) IReV portal. This move aims to enhance transparency, reduce manipulation, and build public confidence in the electoral process.

According to the resolution, all electoral officers must ensure that results are uploaded promptly to the IReV system immediately after collation at polling units. Lawmakers emphasized that this measure will minimize delays and discrepancies in the reporting of election outcomes across the country.

The decision has received mixed reactions from political stakeholders. Some have hailed it as a step towards free and fair elections, while others have raised concerns about the readiness of certain regions to implement the system effectively. Despite the concerns, the House underscored that adherence to the directive is mandatory for all participating officials.

This initiative reflects Nigeria’s continued effort to modernize its electoral system and leverage technology for credible elections. By using real-time electronic reporting, the government aims to strengthen the democratic process and ensure that citizens can trust the announced results.
