Police bust fake kidnapping syndicate, arrest five suspects in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspects linked to a fake kidnapping syndicate operating in different parts of the state. The suspects were allegedly involved in staging kidnappings to extort money from unsuspecting victims and their families. According to the police, the arrests followed credible intelligence and careful surveillance carried out by security operatives.

Police sources revealed that the suspects usually planned fake abductions, where one of them would pretend to be kidnapped while others contacted relatives to demand ransom. In some cases, misleading messages and calls were used to create fear and panic, forcing families to pay money quickly. The police described the act as a criminal scheme aimed at exploiting public fear of insecurity.

During the operation, security operatives reportedly recovered mobile phones, SIM cards, and other items believed to have been used to carry out the illegal activities. The suspects are currently in custody and are being questioned as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of their operations and possible links to other crimes.

The Lagos Police Command has reassured residents of its commitment to fighting crime and protecting lives and property. The police also advised the public to always verify kidnapping claims through security agencies before making any payments, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly to help curb criminal acts in the state.
