Armed men attacked the family of Iorwa Tersen Lawrence in Amafu, Katsina-Ala, Benue State, demanding money collected during their mother’s burial. The incident occurred five days after the burial of their mother, who died in a motor accident along the Amafu–Katsina Road. Three unidentified gunmen stormed the family compound, two of them armed, and beat several members while demanding cash.
The attack left Lawrence and his family injured, with his father sustaining a swollen leg and Lawrence a swollen hand. An aunt and the wife of his uncle were also beaten. Despite resistance, the attackers stole all available cash and valuables, including smartphones, clothes, a power bank, a shuttle bag, and even the late mother’s clothing.
The gunmen also took the family’s motorcycle, leaving them without transportation. Speaking after the ordeal, Lawrence described the family’s trauma and uncertainty, revealing he recently reactivated a new Airtel SIM card after losing his phone during the raid.
The family is appealing to the public and authorities for assistance and justice as they try to recover from the attack. The Benue State Police Command, through DSP Udeme Edet, could not immediately confirm the incident at the time of reporting.
