A court in Abuja has ordered the remand of a Director with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in prison over alleged forgery of land documents. The decision followed the defendant’s arraignment on charges linked to falsifying official land records. The court ruled that the allegations were serious and required proper investigation before any consideration of bail.
According to prosecutors, the FCTA Director is accused of manipulating land allocation documents to illegally transfer ownership of prime plots within the Federal Capital Territory. The prosecution told the court that the alleged acts undermined public trust and violated existing land administration laws meant to protect government property.
During the hearing, the defence counsel pleaded for bail, arguing that the accused is a senior civil servant who would not interfere with investigations. However, the court disagreed, stating that granting bail at this stage could affect the integrity of the case. As a result, the judge ordered that the defendant be held in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
The case has sparked public interest, especially amid ongoing efforts by authorities to tackle corruption in land administration. The court adjourned the matter to a later date for continuation of trial, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring justice and accountability in public office.
