Mahdi Shehu has criticised the recent promotion involving President Bola Tinubu’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC), saying the action goes against established military rules. He argued that promotions in the armed forces are guided by clear procedures and traditions that must be respected at all times.
According to Shehu, allowing political influence to affect military promotions could weaken discipline and professionalism within the armed forces. He warned that ignoring standard processes may create dissatisfaction among officers who have followed due service and training requirements.
Shehu also stressed that the military should remain neutral and insulated from politics. He noted that any action seen as favouritism could damage public trust and affect morale within the ranks, especially at a time when national security challenges remain serious.
He called on the relevant authorities to review the situation and ensure that military norms are upheld. Shehu added that respect for institutional rules is essential to maintaining a strong, united, and professional armed forces.
