The Policy and Practice for Development Forum (PPDF) has advised the Akwa Ibom State Government to make strong use of adaptation finance to address climate change challenges. The group said this call is important as discussions build up towards COP30, where climate funding will be a major focus.
PPDF explained that adaptation finance can help Akwa Ibom reduce the impact of flooding, coastal erosion, and other climate-related problems affecting communities. According to the forum, investing in climate-resilient infrastructure and local solutions will protect livelihoods and support sustainable development in the state.
The organisation also urged the state government to strengthen partnerships with development agencies and the private sector. It noted that proper planning, transparency, and data-driven projects will make it easier for Akwa Ibom to attract global climate funds.
PPDF further stressed the need to involve local communities in climate action plans. It said grassroots participation will ensure that adaptation projects meet real needs and deliver long-term benefits as the world prepares for COP30.
