Alleged N2.2bn fraud: Ngige to remain in Kuje Prison till December 18

Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, will remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until December 18 over an alleged N2.2 billion fraud case. The court adjourned the matter after refusing to grant him bail at this stage of the proceedings.

Ngige is facing charges linked to alleged financial misconduct involving public funds. Prosecutors told the court that investigations are still ongoing and argued that releasing him on bail could interfere with the case. The judge agreed that the matter required more time for proper review.

The former minister, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations and maintained his innocence. His legal team asked the court to reconsider its decision, insisting that Ngige would not evade trial and was ready to cooperate fully with investigators.

The case has continued to attract public attention due to Ngige’s political profile and the large sum involved. The court is expected to resume hearing on December 18, when further arguments on bail and trial proceedings will be considered.
