House of Representatives member, Hon. Alex Jimbo, has cautioned the authorities against withdrawing police officers from Nigerians who legally seek extra security. He argued that at a time when insecurity is still a major concern across the country, removing additional protection could put many lives at risk. According to him, security should be treated as a basic necessity, not a privilege only a few can enjoy.
Jimbo explained that many citizens request extra police protection because they face genuine threats, especially business owners, community leaders, and individuals living in high-risk areas. He stressed that instead of restricting access, the government should upgrade the security system and ensure the police have the manpower and tools needed to protect the public effectively.
He further stated that the withdrawal of police orderlies without proper assessment could worsen fear among the people. Jimbo urged the authorities to create a transparent system that evaluates who truly needs extra protection, rather than applying a blanket withdrawal policy that could endanger vulnerable citizens.
The lawmaker called for dialogue between the police leadership, lawmakers, and security experts to find a solution that strengthens safety nationwide. He maintained that protecting Nigerians should remain a top priority and that no citizen should be denied the right to security in the name of reform or administrative adjustments.
