The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reported a decline in daily consumption of Dangote Petrol across the country. Despite the drop, the importation of petroleum products into Nigeria has increased significantly, reflecting a shift in supply sources.
According to NMDPRA, several factors have contributed to the reduced domestic consumption of Dangote Petrol. Rising prices and changing consumer preferences have pushed some Nigerians to opt for imported petrol, which now constitutes a larger share of the market.
The regulatory authority emphasized the need for strategic planning to balance local production with increasing imports. NMDPRA urged stakeholders to ensure quality standards and avoid disruption in fuel supply as the country navigates this changing landscape.
Experts note that the growth in imports may affect local refineries if domestic consumption continues to fall. They recommend policies that encourage Nigerians to use locally produced petroleum products while maintaining a stable supply chain.
