Police operatives in Benue State stopped a midnight ambush by armed bandits along the Adoka road, preventing what could have been a major attack. According to reports, the criminals had blocked the road and attempted to force a commercial vehicle to stop, but officers on patrol quickly intervened. Their timely arrival saved the passengers, who were already in panic.
The police team engaged the bandits in a brief gun battle, forcing them to flee into the nearby bush. No passenger was harmed during the incident, and the stranded travellers were safely escorted out of the danger zone. Security officials later searched the area to ensure the road was safe for movement.
Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to improve safety on Benue highways, especially at night. They added that frequent patrols have helped reduce the activities of criminals who often target motorists on isolated routes. The command also urged residents to report suspicious movements in their communities.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property in the state. They promised to continue working with local vigilantes and community leaders to combat banditry. Travellers were advised to avoid late-night journeys whenever possible and cooperate with security personnel to ensure safer roads across Benue.
