IPC-SPJ Hub seeka stronger protection for journalists

The IPC-SPJ Hub has called on authorities and stakeholders to do more to protect journalists across Nigeria. The group said media workers face growing threats while carrying out their duties, including harassment, intimidation, and attacks that put their lives at risk.

According to the organisation, a free and safe press is essential for democracy to thrive. It warned that when journalists are attacked or silenced, the public also suffers because access to truthful and timely information is reduced.

The IPC-SPJ Hub urged the government, security agencies, and media owners to strengthen laws and safety measures for journalists. It also called for proper investigation and punishment of those who assault or threaten media professionals.

The group encouraged journalists to continue working ethically and responsibly while pushing for safer working conditions. It stressed that protecting journalists is a shared responsibility that requires urgent and sustained action.
