France has confirmed that it shared intelligence with Benin Republic and Nigeria to help stop a planned coup attempt. French authorities said the intelligence support was part of ongoing cooperation aimed at maintaining peace and stability in West Africa.
According to France, the information helped security agencies in both countries identify early warning signs and respond quickly before the situation escalated. The support focused on preventing violence and protecting democratic institutions from being overthrown.
French officials explained that such cooperation is necessary due to the growing security threats in the region, including coups and armed insurgencies. They added that working closely with African partners helps reduce instability that could spread across borders.
Meanwhile, Benin and Nigeria have welcomed the intelligence assistance, describing it as timely and effective. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to defending democracy and strengthening regional security through partnerships with international allies.
