PWDs call for establishment, activation of disability commission in Ogun

Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Ogun State have called on the state government to establish and fully activate a disability commission to protect their rights and improve inclusion. The group said the absence of a functional commission has continued to limit access to opportunities, support services, and proper representation.

Speaking through their representatives, the PWDs explained that a disability commission would help address discrimination and ensure that government policies consider people living with disabilities. They stressed that many public buildings, schools, and transport systems in the state remain inaccessible to them.

The group also urged the Ogun State Government to move beyond promises and take concrete steps by signing relevant laws and providing funding for the commission. According to them, an active commission would create jobs, improve welfare programmes, and give PWDs a voice in decision-making processes.

They appealed to the governor and lawmakers to see disability inclusion as a development issue, not charity. The PWDs said empowering people with disabilities would contribute to Ogun State’s growth and help build a fairer society where no one is left behind.
