It’s treasonable ordering Gov Adeleke to off mic’ – Lawyer tells First Lady Tinubu

A Nigerian lawyer has described the alleged order to switch off Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s microphone at a public event as treasonable. The lawyer said no individual, regardless of status, has the constitutional power to silence an elected governor during an official function.

Speaking on the matter, the legal expert explained that governors are representatives of the people and must be treated with respect under the law. He argued that any attempt to publicly humiliate or suppress a sitting governor could be seen as an attack on democratic authority and constitutional order.

The comment follows reports that First Lady Remi Tinubu asked that Governor Adeleke’s microphone be turned off while he was singing at a public gathering. The incident has since sparked debates on social media, with Nigerians divided over whether the action was harmless or inappropriate.

The lawyer urged public officials to exercise restraint and respect democratic institutions. He added that public events should promote unity rather than controversy, warning that actions capable of undermining elected leaders could set a dangerous precedent if left unchecked.
