Vice President Kashim Shettima has applauded the Nigerian media for standing firm against what he described as “Foreign Information Manipulation.” He said journalists have played a major role in protecting the country from misleading reports and external propaganda aimed at creating confusion and distrust among citizens. According to him, the media’s quick and responsible response has helped stop false narratives from spreading widely.
Shettima noted that foreign misinformation campaigns have become more frequent, often targeting Nigeria’s security, economy, and political stability. He stressed that without the active involvement of the Nigerian press, many of these misleading stories could have caused serious damage. He appreciates the media’s vigilance and urged them to remain alert in the digital age, where false information spreads faster.
The Vice President encouraged journalists to continue prioritizing accuracy and professionalism when reporting sensitive issues. He also emphasized the importance of national unity, saying that the media plays a key role in strengthening public trust and defending Nigeria’s reputation globally. Shettima added that teamwork between government institutions and the media is essential in handling future threats.
He assured that the government will keep supporting credible journalism and invest in tools that help detect and address misinformation. Shettima called for continuous training for media personnel so they can stay ahead of new tactics used by foreign actors. He concluded by urging all Nigerians to verify information before sharing it to reduce the impact of external manipulation.
