The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has suspended a referee following reports of biased officiating during the Nigeria National League match between Rovers FC and Ekiti United. The decision came after both clubs and spectators raised concerns about several questionable calls made during the game. According to the NFF, the match official failed to maintain fairness, which affected the integrity of the match.

League authorities explained that the review panel analysed video footage and match reports before concluding that the referee’s decisions were inconsistent with NNL rules. They noted that such behaviour damages the reputation of the league and undermines players’ efforts on the field. The suspension is meant to send a clear message that unfair officiating will not be tolerated.

Rovers FC supporters had expressed frustration after the game, claiming that a number of crucial moments were ignored or wrongly judged. Ekiti United fans also welcomed the investigation, saying only transparent officiating can build trust in Nigerian football. Both clubs emphasised that fair play is important for the growth of the NNL.

The NFF confirmed that more monitoring measures will be introduced to ensure referees uphold the standards required in professional football. They encouraged referees to maintain neutrality and warned that further disciplinary actions await anyone who compromises match fairness.
