The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the death of three of its officers after a violent attack in Kebbi State. According to the service, the officers were on duty when armed men stormed their patrol point and opened fire. The incident has left the security community in shock, especially as attacks on personnel continue to rise across different regions.
Authorities explained that the attackers also set fire to the officers’ patrol vehicle before escaping. The tragic event has triggered stronger calls for improved security support for frontline officers who operate in high-risk areas. Local residents reported hearing gunshots and said the incident caused panic within the community.
The NIS leadership has expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing the victims as committed officers who served their nation with dedication. They also promised that investigations have already begun to track down the criminals responsible for the attack. Security agencies in the region have since increased surveillance around border routes.
The service also appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that may help in the ongoing investigation. Many Nigerians have shared condolences on social media, urging the government to prioritise the safety of officers working in remote areas. The attack is another reminder of the growing danger security personnel face while carrying out their duties.
