Court strikes out case challenging Hayab as Northern CAN chairman

A Federal High Court has dismissed the case filed against Rev. John Hayab, challenging his position as the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Northern region. The plaintiffs had argued that his emergence did not follow due process, but the court ruled that the suit lacked merit. According to the judge, the applicants failed to present convincing evidence to support their claims.

The court added that the internal affairs of religious bodies must be handled according to their constitutions unless there is clear proof of wrongdoing. In this instance, the judge emphasized that CAN’s procedures were properly followed in selecting Hayab. With this decision, the legal challenge questioning his leadership has officially come to an end.

Following the ruling, Rev. Hayab expressed relief and said the judgment will allow him to focus fully on his duties. He stressed the importance of unity among Christians in the region, especially at a time when insecurity and social tensions continue to affect communities. Hayab also urged members to set aside differences and work together for peace and development.

CAN leaders across the North welcomed the verdict, describing it as a win for stability and order. They encouraged members to respect due process and avoid unnecessary divisions. The ruling is expected to strengthen leadership structures within the association and help it respond better to issues affecting Christians in Northern Nigeria.
