International rap superstar, Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, widely known as Nicki Minaj, has shared that her first name has Igbo origins. She confirmed that “Onika” is the Trinidadian version of the Igbo name “Onyekachi.”
Minaj made the revelation while reacting to a fan praising her appearance at the United Nations, where she spoke against jihadist attacks on Christians in Nigeria. The fan had posted that her name, which means “Who is greater than God,” shows she was destined to speak boldly against injustice.
The fan further explained the meaning of the name Onika, describing it as “belief in a supreme being who has ultimate authority.” He encouraged Nigerian fans to confirm the name’s connection to Igbo culture and highlight how destiny prepares people even before birth.
Nicki Minaj responded playfully to the post, adding another interesting detail about her identity. She revealed that the tattoo on her arm means “God is with me” in Chinese, making her fans even more fascinated by her cultural and spiritual connections.
