The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has explained the reason behind the sudden power outage that affected Awka and several neighbouring communities. According to the company, the blackout was caused by a major fault on one of the transmission lines supplying electricity to the area. The fault led to an unexpected shutdown, cutting power to homes and businesses.
EEDC noted that its technical team immediately swung into action once the disruption was detected. Engineers were deployed to trace the source of the problem and work on restoring supply as quickly as possible. The company said the situation required careful handling because of the scale of the fault and the safety precautions needed.
Residents in Awka and surrounding locations had complained about the long hours of darkness, with many expressing frustration over the impact on daily activities. Businesses relying on electricity were also forced to depend on generators, increasing their operating costs. EEDC assured the public that restoring stable power is a top priority.
The electricity company apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for patience as repairs continue. It urged customers to report any further faults in their areas to help speed up restoration. EEDC promised to keep the public updated on progress until full power supply is restored.
