The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has announced that its nationwide strike will continue, insisting that the government has made no meaningful progress in meeting their demands. The association expressed disappointment that several weeks into the industrial action, none of the issues raised—ranging from improved welfare to better working conditions—have been addressed.
According to NARD, the federal government has failed to show commitment toward resolving the crisis. The association noted that its members are overworked, underpaid, and are leaving the country in large numbers due to poor treatment. They stressed that the strike is not just about salaries but also about fixing the collapsing healthcare system.
NARD stated that meetings with government officials have ended without concrete results. They added that repeated promises and committees have become a pattern, with no real action taken. The association stressed that until clear steps are taken, doctors will remain off duty, except for emergency services in some locations.
The doctors called on the government to take urgent action to prevent the total breakdown of healthcare services nationwide. They urged Nigerians to understand that the strike is aimed at securing better conditions that will improve patient care in the long run, not just for the doctors themselves.
