FCTA to crack down on ground rent, other bills defaulters

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has announced plans to take strong action against individuals and organisations refusing to pay ground rent and other statutory charges in Abuja. The administration said the continuous refusal to pay these fees is affecting revenue generation and slowing down development projects in the territory.

According to officials, many property owners have ignored multiple reminders and notices sent to them. The FCTA explained that funds from ground rent and service charges are essential for maintaining infrastructure, improving public services, and running the city efficiently. The administration said it will no longer tolerate defaulters who enjoy public facilities but refuse to meet their financial obligations.

To address the issue, the FCTA revealed that enforcement teams will begin visiting defaulting properties. These teams will verify payment records and take legal steps where necessary. Some of the consequences may include sealing properties, applying penalties, or initiating court actions. The goal is to ensure accountability and boost revenue that will support Abuja’s growth.

The administration appealed to residents and business owners to update their payment records immediately to avoid embarrassment or sanctions. It added that compliance is the only way the FCT can continue to provide quality services, maintain public infrastructure and support urban development across the capital.
