The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has raised the alarm following an attack on a church in Eruku, where several worshippers were abducted. The group condemned the incident and called on security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the victims. CAN emphasized that such attacks on places of worship are unacceptable and a serious threat to peace in the community.
According to CAN officials, the attack occurred during a church service, leaving members of the congregation traumatized. The association urged both state and federal authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of those kidnapped and to prevent further attacks on religious institutions. They described the incident as a violation of human rights and religious freedom.
The leadership of CAN also called on local communities to remain vigilant and support law enforcement in providing intelligence about the attackers. They stressed that protecting worshippers and restoring a sense of security in religious spaces should be a top priority for all stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the association appealed to the general public to pray for the safe return of the abducted worshippers and for wisdom for the authorities handling the situation. CAN reiterated that the government must take decisive action to ensure such violent attacks do not recur in Eruku or other parts of Nigeria.
