The Federal High Court has announced that its judges will commence their annual Christmas vacation on December 19. The break is part of the judiciary’s official calendar, giving judges time to rest after a busy year of hearings and rulings. During this period, regular court activities will be suspended while essential matters may still be handled by designated vacation judges.
The court noted that the holiday break is important for maintaining the well-being and efficiency of the judiciary. It explained that judges handle heavy workloads throughout the year, and the vacation allows them to recover and prepare for the new legal year. Only urgent cases—such as those involving fundamental rights or time-sensitive matters—will be entertained during the holiday.
According to the announcement, normal court operations will resume immediately after the vacation period ends. Lawyers, litigants, and members of the public have been advised to plan their activities accordingly, especially those with pending cases or filings.
The judiciary reassured Nigerians that despite the break, access to justice will not be affected as designated judges will be available to attend to critical issues. The vacation schedule reflects the court’s efforts to balance judicial efficiency with the welfare of its officers.
