CJN approves Akwa Ibom for 2025 Judiciary Sports Competition

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) has given official approval for Akwa Ibom State to host the 2025 Judiciary Sports Competition, a major annual event that brings together judicial workers from across the country. The decision was announced after a review of proposals submitted by various states, with Akwa Ibom selected for its readiness, facilities, and strong record of hosting national events. The competition is expected to unite judges, magistrates, and other judiciary staff in a week of sports and social activities.

According to officials, the event aims to promote fitness, teamwork, and bonding within the judiciary, helping officers stay mentally and physically healthy while fostering unity across courts. The CJN’s approval is seen as a vote of confidence in Akwa Ibom’s infrastructure, especially its modern sports complexes and hospitality capacity. The state government has also pledged full support to ensure the event is successful.

Preparations are expected to begin immediately, with committees set to inspect venues, plan logistics, and coordinate accommodation for participants from all 36 states. Stakeholders say the 2025 edition will be bigger than previous years, with more sporting categories and improved organisation. The competition usually features football, athletics, table tennis, volleyball, basketball, and other recreational activities.

Many judicial workers have welcomed the announcement, saying it will boost morale and provide a healthy break from the pressures of courtroom duties. The hosting right is also expected to bring economic benefits to Akwa Ibom through tourism, hospitality, and local spending during the event.
