Benue govt bans illegal school fees, introduces mandatory e-Dossiers

The Benue State Government has announced a ban on all illegal fees charged in public schools and introduced a new system known as mandatory e-Dossiers for students and teachers. According to the state authorities, the move is part of broader reforms aimed at promoting transparency, improving record-keeping, and reducing financial burdens on parents. Schools are now expected to strictly follow approved government charges, while any unapproved levies are prohibited.

Officials explained that the e-Dossier system will serve as a digital record hub containing students’ academic progress, personal details, and other relevant information. Teachers will also have profiles that help track performance, postings, and training history. The government said this change will modernise the education sector and make it easier to monitor activities in schools across the state.

The education commissioner noted that many schools had been collecting extra fees without approval, causing complaints from parents. With the new directive, school administrators have been warned that anyone caught imposing illegal charges will face sanctions. Parents are encouraged to report any violations immediately.

The state government believes the combined ban and digital reform will improve accountability and bring order to the education system. They added that the e-Dossiers will support data-driven planning and ensure every child’s academic records are properly stored and accessible when needed.
