Gunmen kidnap PDP ex-Chairman, Catholic priest in Kwara

Gunmen have abducted a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a Catholic priest in Kwara State, creating tension and fear within the affected communities. The victims were reportedly taken in separate attacks, but both incidents occurred within the same local government area. Residents say the kidnappers struck late in the evening, catching their targets unaware and escaping before security operatives could intervene.

According to eyewitness accounts, the abductors stormed the areas armed and operated for several minutes without resistance. The former PDP Chairman was taken from his residence, while the priest was kidnapped on his way back from a church programme. Both families have been left traumatised, and many locals now fear for their safety, describing the situation as a growing threat in the region.

Security agencies have launched a manhunt to rescue the victims and track down the perpetrators. Police authorities confirmed the incidents and assured the public that efforts are underway to secure the victims’ release. Community leaders have also called for calm while urging the government to intensify security measures, especially in rural communities where such attacks are becoming more frequent.

The multiple abductions have sparked widespread concern, with many Nigerians expressing frustration over rising insecurity in parts of the country. Stakeholders insist that unless urgent steps are taken to address kidnapping and violent crimes, more innocent citizens may fall victim. They also emphasised the need for improved intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration between security operatives and local communities.
