Resolve remaining issues before one month window ends – ASUU warns Nigerian govt

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government, urging it to resolve all outstanding issues affecting university operations before the one-month window ends. The union highlighted concerns over unpaid salaries, poor infrastructure, and stalled negotiations on welfare packages for academic staff. ASUU emphasized that failure to address these issues could lead to renewed strikes, disrupting academic calendars across the country.

In a statement released by the union’s leadership, ASUU stressed that prolonged inaction by the government undermines the quality of education and negatively affects students, lecturers, and the overall academic system. The union also called on the government to engage sincerely in dialogue and honor previous agreements reached in past negotiations.

ASUU further cautioned that the patience of university staff is limited and that any delay beyond the stipulated period may force the union to take industrial action. The union advised the government to prioritize immediate solutions to avert a potential nationwide strike that could affect millions of students.

Education stakeholders and parents have expressed concern over the ongoing disputes, urging both parties to resolve matters swiftly. ASUU’s warning underscores the urgency of improving Nigeria’s tertiary education system and maintaining stability in universities.
